Why There Will Never Be Another Song Ji A On Netflix’s “Single’s Inferno”

She can’t be replicated, according to viewers.

When Netflix released its first Korean dating show, Single’s Inferno, in 2021, it became a worldwide hit. Four seasons later, Song Ji A is still one of the most popular cast members.

Ji A’s mysterious allure, combined with her stunning beauty and charisma, charmed not only fellow cast members but also viewers.

As Season 1 progressed, viewers became more and more invested in who Ji A would choose to leave Inferno with, but also Ji A herself. She was an enigma.

It’s possible that viewers’ overwhelming interest in Ji A as the Single’s Inferno “It girl” might have also influenced how Seasons 2 – 4 of the show are structured. As Single’s Inferno 4 viewers have frequently pointed out, Season 4 seems to be pushing Lee Si An as this season’s “It girl,” given that she has much more screen time than other cast members. Like Ji A, Si An also has several male cast members interested in her.

As some viewers have pointed out, however, Si An, Ji A, and other Single’s Inferno alumni, like Shin Seul Ki, just aren’t comparable. They all have completely different charms, and part of those charms are amplified by who they have chemistry with on the show. That’s why pushing the “It girl” narrative with a particular cast member in mind from the beginning, rather than letting it emerge organically, just doesn’t work.

Throughout Single’s Inferno 4, viewers have expressed their annoyance and disappointment with the show, aruging that some couples are given more screen time while others are being put on the back burner. As some netizens have pointed out, Ji A was one of the most popular–if not the most popular–Season 1 cast members, but the show was never “all about” her.

Given how brightly Ji A shone and how well she held viewers’ interest, it’s likely that she would have naturally emerged as a fan favorite regardless of whether or not the show was edited to make her its main character.
