When Choo Sung Hoon (also known by his Japanese name Yoshihiro Akiyama) made his entrance in Episode 1, all eyes snapped to this “GrandZaddy,” and for good reason.

Choo “Sexyama” Sung Hoon is a Korean Japanese mixed martial artist and former K-1 HERO’s Light Heavyweight Grand Prix Tournament Champion. In 2001, he won gold for South Korea at the Asian Championships, followed by a gold medal for Japan at the 2002 Asian Games, before kicking off his MMA career in 2004. 19 years later, he’s still kicking ass.

Choo Sung Hoon has trained in submission wrestling, karate, boxing, wrestling, and kickboxing, and he holds a 3rd Dan Black Belt in Judo. In other words, this silver fox is a human weapon—but also an adoring father.

While many Physical: 100 viewers are just getting introduced to Sexyama, he’s no stranger to the entertainment world. He and his daughter Choo Sa Rang co-starred in the megapopular variety show, The Return of Superman, along with several other celebrity dad-and-kid pairings.

Choo Sung Hoon has also met many K-Pop idols over the years, including BTS‘s Jungkook, who sparred with him last summer.

Although Sexyama is already a well-respected martial artist and entertainer, his time on Physical: 100 is winning him new fans around the world. On social media, viewers are expressing their admiration for his leadership and incredible teamwork.

This all-star captain brought his crew through one of their toughest challenges yet: towing a 1.5 ton ship!

He’s a competitor you can’t help but root for!
