The Thai BL Dramas That Are Actually Based On GOT7 Fanfiction

Seems familiar?

You ever watched a movie or K-Drama and thought, “This seems oddly familiar?” Sometimes, it seems just like a fanfiction.

The truth is it probably is based on fanfiction! After all, many successful film franchises were even based on fan fiction. For example, from Western entertainment, the After series is based on a One Direction fanfiction, focused on Harry Styles.

Even Fifty Shades Of Grey is based on Twilight!

So, it’s no surprise that international dramas would also take inspiration, especially considering fandoms love their fanfictions. One Thai drama adapted from a fanfiction is the Thai BL (boy love) drama Nitiman.

If you’ve watched it already, this will all make sense… It’s actually based on a GOT7 fanfiction called Nitiman: the Society and Lover.

As it’s a Thai web novel, there is not an official English translation. However, there are English translations to be found.

The BL pairing was actually Jay B (previously known as JB) and Jinyoung. The names are slightly altered, but basically just shortened to Bom and Jin, respectively. So, while it’s changed enough to be legal, it’s still obvious to Ahgases who the characters are based on.

The plot of the Thai drama is about university students Jin and Bom. Jin ends up realizing feelings for his ex-girlfriend’s cousin Bam who already liked him. It stars Jom Thanathorn Khuankaew as Jinake/Jin and Noh Phouluang Thongprasert as Be Bomb/Bom.

Jinake Saman is the university moon in the engineering faculty, known across the whole campus as the hottest moon. There was the saying among the campus ‘Nothing and no one was hotter than Mr. Jin!’ One day when he broke up with his girlfriend, Aim, he fell apart in despair. He later discovered that Aim who broke his heart is the cousin of law student Be Bomb. Jin misunderstands and thinks that Bom and his cousin were flirting when in fact he actually likes Jin. Bom has liked Jin since he was a freshman a year ago after Jin exchanged Bom’s lunchbox (because he can’t eat anything spicy) with his own food and rice. As feelings grow between them, can Jin understand Bom’s true intentions and come to see Bom as more than just a junior?

If you’re wondering how this story is about K-Pop group members, it’s an AU (alternate universe), set in a college setting. The two main characters are still heavily inspired by GOT7’s leader Jay B and Jinyoung, and their characteristics.

While the drama ran from May 7 to July 9, 2021, some viewers belatedly realized that the series is adapted from a GOT7 fanfiction. And, well, they were shook, to say the least.

Now, if you’re wondering if any other GOT7 members make an appearance, there might be one more. Is it really fanfiction if Jackson Wang isn’t there? So, there’s one character named… Jack. Big surprise there.

Of course, he had to throw a party too! This is based on fanfiction, after all. You know “Jack” gotta throw his party.

Actor Bhu Bhudis Viseshchitra, who portrays Jack, even somewhat resembles Jackson. Coincidence? We think not.

Like seriously… look at them!

Jackson Wang.

Some Ahgases even threatened to tell BamBam about the drama. Considering he’s already friends with Thai actors Suppasit Jongcheveevat and Gun Atthaphan Phunsawat and knows all of Ahgases’ secrets, he probably already knows!

Now, what probably should not have been mentioned was that there was another drama based on a GOT7 fanfiction, but this time, it’s focused on him.

The series Not Me is based on another famous Thai GOT7 fanfiction. Its leads were inspired by BamBam and Mark Tuan. Ironically, BamBam’s friend Gun stars in it!
