TWICE Reveals The Reason They Changed Their Concept With "FANCY"

For TWICE‘s comeback “FANCY” the girls explored a more chic girl crush image as opposed to the bright pastel image they’re famous for. This is the first time they’ve done a girl crush concept since their debut song “LIKE OOH-AHH”. They explained why now was the perfect time to switch it up at their FANCY YOU Showcase.

We wanted to show the public and our fans this kind of image. The fact that we made our first Korean comeback of the year with “FANCY” could be a new turning point for TWICE.

“As you know, we’ve shown a ‘bright’ image a lot. We thought our members as well as our fans might be getting tired of it. With the song “FANCY,” I hope to build on TWICE’s bright energy and show you a more mature and new image.”

When talking about hair styles, Jeongyeon‘s new longer locks were obviously a hot topic.

This is the first time I’ve had long hair since our debut. I hope you like it. (laughs)

Nayeon also spoke about how “FANCY” was different from their past work not only visually, but vocally as well!

When we first heard ‘FANCY,’ there were members who liked it and members who felt a bit awkward. However, listening to it after recording, we all liked it. I did my part for “Fancy” three or four times. We wanted to make this one different from TWICE and Black Eyed Pilseung’s usual vibe, so we made a lot of effort vocally as well.

“FANCY” is already smashing records and, as Chaeyoung hoped, has established itself as a new turning point for TWICE.
