The MAMA Awards (Formerly known as the Mnet Asian Music Awards) is one of the most anticipated awards ceremonies for K-Pop fans, and it’s one of the largest music award ceremonies dedicated to Asia.

Each year, the top K-Pop groups gather for an unforgettable night of glamorous red carpet appearances, surprise performances and collaborations, and iconic idol interactions.

With viewers tuning in worldwide, K-Pop artists often prepare unique stages with extravagant designs, special effects, and incredible dance breaks.

The latest MAMA Awards was no different, with TXT delivering an explosive compilation of songs from their fourth mini-album Minisode 2: Thursday’s Child.

Their stage captivated the audience and left MOAs speechless, but TXT’s Soobin revealed that their performance didn’t exactly go as planned.

Soobin recently sat down for an interview with Weverse Magazine for the group’s comeback, where he discussed his experience at the annual award show, including his own fanboy experience witnessing the legendary 2nd-gen group KARA‘s first comeback in seven years.

I never thought I’d get to see [KARA] perform again so I almost teared up. I was so happy seeing how much they enjoyed being back up on stage. They were part of the reason that I liked K-pop and had a dream of becoming a singer when I was a kid.

Soobin went from fan to top idol when he stepped on the stage, but in reflection, he unexpectedly revealed that he was worried he had ruined the highlight of TXT’s performance.

While performing “Good Boy Gone Bad,” the group had a dance break where members Yeonjun and Soobin were meant to perform blindfolded.

The blindfold is one of the highlights of the choreography and I never had a problem tying it during rehearsals. I practiced over and over, but when it came to the real thing, suddenly it wouldn’t work.

— Soobin

During their performance, Soobin could be seen attempting to tie the blindfold around his head while Hueningkai, Beomgyu, and Taehyun danced in front of him. Soobin and Yeonjun had only seconds to put on their blindfolds before they were in the spotlight.

The camera then cut to a properly blindfolded Yeonjun and Soobin, who had the blindfold in his mouth.

Soobin oozed confidence, and it would be difficult for a casual viewer to realize that something was off.

His quick improvisation effortlessly blended into the performance and proved his incredible professionalism.

I was so worried that our highlight would flop all because of me, so I bit it and kept on dancing without me realizing it and it wasn’t like I made a split second decision thinking “I should bite this.” I was just desperate and thought I’d better do something.

— Soobin

Soobin was initially disappointed that he had made a mistake but was reassured after receiving positive feedback.

I felt bad and sorry because I made a mistake on stage but the immediate response was good and everyone was applauding when I got back to the green room, so I was relieved that it turned out okay.

— Soobin

Netizens who noticed the small mistake after the show aired had only praise for Soobin’s quick thinking and natural instincts. Both of which are proof of TXT’s hard work and dedication.

TXT’s Beomgyu was also similarly praised for his professionalism after improvising part of his performance at the 2022 MMAs. Check out more on that in the article below!
