She said this after watching a contestant’s stage, ‘Of all the stages that I’ve watched today, it was the worst performance I saw. It was so bad, I didn’t even get mad.’ Following a blind audition, which was voted for by the audience, this is what she said. ‘I believe that the audience members should press their buttons with a sense of responsibility.’

Following his introduction, Yoo Hee Yeol asked Soyeon if it was “hard” judging so honestly knowing that she’d receive some type of hate afterwards. It was to his question that Soyeon revealed how she came to decide to become the honest “villain” of the show.

Honestly, I’m usually bad at providing constructive criticisms about others. But the moment I made the decision to appear on the show, I decided to become the villain. I wanted to take responsibility for the show and act upon that. I wanted the contestants to remember me as someone who helped them out, which is why I shared comments that I knew they needed to hear.

The talented idol further commented by sharing her own personal experiences as a former trainee and reality show survivor. Soyeon revealed that as she reflected back on her past during her time on competition programs, she wished someone would have provided her with the same constructive criticisms.

When I was on the audition programs and when I was a trainee, something that I thought was, ‘how come they didn’t tell me this then.’ I think I’m saying all those types of comments now. I’m at a point where the only thing I can do is provide honest comments.

Soyeon has been featuring as a judge and mentor on Mnet’s audition survival program, My Teenage Girl, as she evaluates numerous trainees on their different abilities. Given her talented resume, it made sense to have the (G)I-DLE member on board, but netizens wondered what she would bring to the show since she’s been in the industry for less than 4 years.

However, it didn’t take long for viewers to realize just how cutthroat Soyeon could be with her judging skills, as she previously made headlines for her harsh comments regarding My Teenage Girl contestants.
