LE SSERAFIM Sakura’s Outlook On The Judgment And Hate K-Pop Idols Face Shows Her True Personality

It’s not easy to deal with, but Sakura doesn’t let it get her down.

Sakura is only 24 years old, but she’s already been an idol for 11 years. Having already debuted in three groups, Sakura brings the lessons she’s learned and the wisdom she’s gained to her forever group, LE SSERAFIM.

Sakura became a first-generation trainee for the Japanese pop group HKT48 at the age of 13, becoming a full member of the group a year later.

In 2018, she joined the K-Pop competition program Produce 48, which resulted in her debuting in IZ*ONE after finishing the show in second place.

After two and a half years, IZ*ONE disbanded at the end of their contract, and fans eagerly awaited Sakura’s next move.

In May 2021, Sakura officially announced she would be graduating from HKT48. While rumors swirled that she would be signing with HYBE Labels, it wasn’t until August 2021 that her signing a contract with the company was confirmed.

From there, she has fully embraced becoming LE SSERAFIM’s Sakura, working tirelessly to continue improving despite having over a decade of experience in the industry.

This tenacity to continue to want to show a stronger side to herself is one of the many reasons she’s been able to have such a long-lasting and successful career.

Her rise to fame has not come without struggles. In her recent Weverse Magazine interview with journalist Kim Rieun, Sakura openly spoke about overcoming feelings of entitlement early in her career that can come with fame.

I think I was immature, self-centered and only thinking of myself when I first debuted. But I learned there’s certain things you should say and do to be considerate of others and build a good relationship the longer I’ve been an idol.

— Sakura

The outlook she developed when she was younger helped shape the mature and kind-hearted personality that fans have come to know and love for years.

Her maturity was also evident in her interview when it came to the topic of hate comments and the judgment K-Pop idols receive.

Sometimes I see comments on the Internet where people judge an idol entirely based on one thing they do, and I always feel bad when I see how they get stressed out from that.

— Sakura

Even as an experienced idol, reading negative comments can still leave a mark. Still, Sakura has found a way to make the best of netizen hate comments, even if it’s something an idol shouldn’t have to experience.

When I see comments like that about me, I end up thinking, Did I always used to be that bad? Was I not any good back then? But, in reality, all those moments make up who I am.

— Sakura

Sakura channeled these feelings into her songwriting contribution for “Good Parts (When the Quality is Bad but I Am),” a song from their second mini-album, which also features lyrics by Yunjin.

Sakura also uses earned wisdom and experience in the industry to protect maknaes Eunchae and Kazuha and help them have fun, even when the K-Pop idol journey becomes stressful.
