“Pretty” Male Idol Addresses Gay Rumors And Dating Scandal With Another Male Idol
When Super Junior debuted, Kim Heechul was dubbed one of the “prettiest” male idols in the K-Pop scene. He embraced this concept, wearing his hair long and rocking feminine floral prints. Unfortunately, this led to Heechul’s longest-standing rumor—one about his sexual orientation.
In the latest episode of MBC‘s Radio Star, the idol addressed the rumor and even shared more details about one of the more significant “dating scandals” he has had with a fellow male K-Pop star.
Jang Keun Suk, Lee Hongki, and I have similar vibes. Because of that, Keun Suk and I had tons of gay rumors.

Earlier in his career, Kim Heechul found himself involved in a big dating scandal with none other than his best friend, Epik High‘s Mithra (also known as Mithra Jin).
While Heechul liked spending time with Mithra because he was a good listener, their polar opposite visuals ended up fueling speculations about the nature of their friendship. The two of them owning the same cars did not help!
Eventually, I even had a big dating scandal with Mithra. That one really blew up. We were really close. He was one of the very first friends I made after my debut. But because he’s way taller than me and very macho, and I had long hair… Visually, it was suspicious, I guess. We were always seen together back then.
He was the complete opposite of me, and whenever we met, he listened seriously to what I had to say. We even had the same car. I’d always ride shotgun with him, and you know, there’s a special coziness to being the passenger. While the driver just drives, I’d be the one fussing around and taking care of things…

At one point, the rumors had gotten so bad that even Tablo had his suspicions…
Kim Heechul: The rumors had gotten so bad that when Mithra met up with me, he kept it a secret from the other Epik High members. But one day, Tablo caught us, and he REALLY looked at us funny.
Kim Gu Ra: Why did Mithra hide it? Sounds like he did really like you back then, huh? Maybe not anymore, though.
Kim Heechul: Huh. Never thought about it like that!
…but all speculations were put to rest when Mithra got married in 2015. At the wedding, Kim Heechul met Mithra’s wife and even took a hilarious photo together!
