Popular TV Star Reveals What Happened After Her Fake Sex Video Leak That Shook The Nation

One of the most unfair moments of her life, she noted.

In the latest episode of KBS‘s Problem Child In House, TYPHOON member-turned-artist Solbi guested and shared heartbreaking details of “the most unfair moment” in her life.

When asked about a time when she felt the most wronged, Solbi did not hesitate to answer, “Back in 2009.” In 2009, a sex video called the “Solbi Video” circulated—and while the video was fabricated, Solbi’s reputation took a huge hit.

Back in 2009, there was a ‘video leak.’ It even used my name, being called the ‘Solbi video.’ But it was not me in that video. That was one of the very first cases of a fake video spreading like that in Korea, so no one knew how to respond.

At the time, I went to the police and filed charges, but they couldn’t track down the original uploader—only those who spread it. It was so unfair. Later, when social media became a thing, it was edited and reproduced again, and even my mother ended up receiving it.

The incident led to Solbi becoming unwell.

Initially, I wasn’t going to file charges, but someone from the police contacted my company, saying, ‘There’s a video going around. Shouldn’t Solbi file a report?’ Honestly, I was so scared back then that I couldn’t even think straight. I just couldn’t go around telling people, ‘Hey, it’s not me.’ I didn’t want to explain it through the press either. Because of that, I fell into depression and developed social anxiety.

As Solbi struggled with depression and social anxiety, her life fell apart. She admitted that her boyfriend at the time ended up leaving her, too. His parents, who found out about the video, had convinced the boyfriend to break up with her.

I was feeling things I’ve never felt before. When people looked at me, I started assuming, ‘Oh, this person must see me that way too.’ And because of that, I even broke up with my boyfriend at the time. His parents found out about it. Even though I was the victim, I don’t think they wanted their son dating someone involved in such a scandal. The whole world looked dark to me, and I resented everyone.

Fortunately, Solbi was able to turn things around by getting therapy and finding hobbies to keep her going. That’s when she found her passion for art—something that she has since been able to spin into a successful career. In fact, Solbi has grown through what she has gone through, now able to draw inspiration from even the hate and the resentment that once made her suffer!

To overcome it, I went hiking, learned drums, did flower arranging, and eventually received psychological counseling. That’s when I was encouraged to try art, and that’s how I started painting. It was through painting that the way I viewed the world became healthier, and my feelings of resentment toward people also improved. At first, I painted like I was writing a diary, and as I expressed my wounds through art, even hate comments became material for my artwork.

Now a renowned artist, Solbi held her solo exhibition, “Flowers From Heaven,” this past March. In April, she also participated in a special invitational exhibition in Porto, Portugal, continuing to expand her career as an artist.
