Health and Medical Workers’ Union Criticize YG Entertainment For Inaccurate Nurse Costume In BLACKPINK’s “Lovesick Girls”

It has nothing to do with what BLACKPINK did.

The Health and Medical Workers’ Union of Korea has raised its voice to criticize YG Entertainment for the nurse uniform that appeared in BLACKPINK‘s recent music video, “Lovesick Girls.”

Regarding the nurse costume that Jennie wore in the music video, the union stated,

The cap, tights, short skirt, and high heels are far from the actual nurse uniform, and only follows the typical depiction used for sexual appeal.

The union continued,

Despite nurses being health care laborers and medical professionals, the fact that there are more women than men in this profession exposes us to sexual objectification and forces us to deal with belittling depictions that question our expertise.

As a result, the union expressed their disappointment that YG Entertainment did the same in BLACKPINK’s music video.

In order to reform this issue, we made lots of effort, but YG Entertainment sexually objectified nurses in BLACKPINK’s new MV. Nurses are still subjected to unfair treatment and sexual assault. The more this image of nurses is repeated, the worse the situation becomes.

The union concluded by stressing the importance of using BLACKPINK’s influence in a responsible manner.

Since BLACKPINK’s new song is topping charts all over the world, we ask that YG Entertainment take measures that suit BLACKPINK’s popularity and influence.
