Top Idol Reveals How Shin Dong Yup “Saved Her Life” With Just One Comment
Sometimes, the words that change a person’s life are not dramatic or rehearsed. For Hwasa, it was one subtle nudge from Shin Dong Yup that stayed with her long after the cameras stopped rolling.

On June 8, the members of MAMAMOO appeared as guests on Shin Dong Yup’s YouTube show Zzanbro, where they opened up about their lives, careers, and mental health.
During the episode, Shin Dong Yup asked the members whether they had been managing their mental health well. In response, Hwasa revealed that she had once received a comment from him that deeply comforted her.

“There’s something I really wanted to tell you,” Hwasa began. She then recalled her previous appearance on the show, explaining that at the time, she believed she was doing well.
When I appeared on Zzanbro last time, I thought I was living bravely and happily in my own way… Or so I thought.

However, Shin Dong Yup quietly said something to her that left a lasting impact.
At one point, you pulled me aside and said, ‘Hwasa-ya, you have to do your best to be happy.’ After the filming ended, I cried in the car on the way home. I was pretty drunk, but I still found myself crying in the car. I think that comment just really dug deep into my heart.

Hwasa then confessed just how meaningful Shin Dong Yup’s words had been to her—and how they changed the way she viewed her own happiness. “But in the end, those words truly saved me,” she said.

Honestly, it feels like those words changed my life so much that I feel bad just saying thank you with empty hands. After that, I really started thinking, ‘I want to do my best to be happy,’ and I think my life actually changed completely.

Her honest confession touched viewers, especially since Hwasa has often been open about the emotional weight of being in the public eye.
