As one of the biggest K-Pop stars globally, the impact of BTS member V is undeniable. From the world of music to fashion to art to entertainment, his reach is manifold.
But in an unexpected turn of events, it turns out that V also impacted the casting of Squid Game: The Challenge. The reality show, based on the popular 2021 K-Drama Squid Game, featured real-life contestants competing for a huge cash prize of USD 4.56 million dollars. Participants had to compete in multiple high-stakes games to bag the title of the winner.
Though the show faced harsh criticisms due to its working conditions and other ethical concerns, the show garnered quite the popularity after its Netflix release on November 22, 2023. In fact, thanks to the high viewership rate, it got renewed for a second season soon after.
Recently, one of the participants on the show, an influencer named Kevin Ninh, confessed that his motivation to participate in the show was not the tempting prize money but V!
In a hilarious video, the influencer claimed that V’s cosplay as a prison guard from Squid Game was the “real reason” why he participated in the game show. In the caption, Kevin wrote, “My fellow cast mates may have been competing for $4.56 million dollars, but I was competing for Taehyung’s heart.”
In 2021, V took the internet by storm after he appeared in the Squid Game guard costume on stage at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles during BTS’s Permission to Dance on Stage – Live Play concert. Clips of him revealing his face from underneath the mask and posing went viral on social media, creating some next-level frenzy even among non-fans. Even Netflix jumped onto the hype!
Meanwhile, Kevin, who participated in the show as Player Number 187, was eliminated during one of the early games, called the Battleship. Though we don’t know whether Kevin won V’s heart or not, his hilarious Squid Game: The Challenge stories have surely won over the internet!
