5 K-Pop Idols Who Originally Didn’t Want To Become Idols

Numbers 1 and 4 ended up auditioning for hilarious reasons.

While a lot of K-Pop idols dream of becoming singers from an early age, some current idols originally didn’t have an interest in becoming one. Here’s a list of some K-Pop idols who originally didn’t want to become idols, but eventually got persuaded.

1. Kai (EXO)

Kai has revealed in the past that he originally wanted to become a ballet dancer and had no plans on becoming a singer. One day his father asked him to audition for SM Entertainment when the company was having auditions, but Kai refused his father’s offer. Kai’s father then told him that he would buy him a video game console if he passed the audition, and Kai ended up going to the audition.

2. Suga (BTS)

Suga has revealed in the past that he never intended on becoming an idol when he joined Big Hit Entertainment. He shared that he got tricked by Bang Si Hyuk when he told him that he would be put in a group like 1TYM, where he wouldn’t have to dance and would just have to focus on rapping.

This ended up being a lie, as Suga was placed into a group that focuses intensely on their choreographies. Suga also revealed that he felt a little backstabbed due to Bang Si Hyuk.

Suga’s also mentioned in a past interview how he was more interested in becoming a producer rather than an idol when he got into Big Hit Entertainment.

3. DK (SEVENTEEN)

In a recent interview in Get In The Car, DK shared some interesting details of how he got into Pledis Entertainment. He revealed that when he started getting interested in singing, he began taking vocal lessons as a hobby. When he ended up finding information about Pledis Entertainment, he contacted them for an audition. However, he contacted them because he wanted to see how well he would do, not because he had intentions of becoming an idol.

DK ended up impressing Pledis Entertainment with his talents, as they soon offered him a spot in the company.

4. Taemin (SHINee)

Taemin has revealed in a past interview that he originally auditioned for SM Entertainment not because he wanted to become a singer, but because he wanted to skip tutoring classes.

Honestly, the reason why I auditioned was because I didn’t want to attend tutoring classes. I used to attend an academy at the time, and I was young so I just wanted to play and not attend.

5. Wooseok (UP10TION)

During a recent episode of Radio Star, Wooseok shared that he originally wanted to become a barista, and had no plans of becoming an idol. He even dropped out of high school to become a barista. However, while he was working part-time, he started to get a lot of calls from entertainment agencies to come for an audition. While Wooseok originally wanted to decline these offers, he ended up auditioning for companies after he saw his mother crying.
