LE SSERAFIM‘s latest release has triggered some heated reactions online.

The HYBE girl group released “Celebration,” the lead single of their upcoming studio album, PUREFLOW pt. 1, on April 24, KST. The track blends genres like Melodic Techno and Hardstyle, and its music video conveys a message of solidarity among the “misfits” of the world.

However, this song, marking a new chapter in LE SSERAFIM’s discography, has received scathing criticism online. Within hours of release, social media has been abuzz with claims that the girl group was deliberately trying to “copy” BLACKPINK. People opined that not only the soundscape, but even the chaotic visuals of the music video appeared heavily borrowed from BLACKPINK’s “Jump.”

Many fans defended LE SSERAFIM, arguing that the two songs had nothing in common except the fact that they belonged to similar genres.

However, aside from the comparison with BLACKPINK, many listeners found “Celebration” objectively disappointing. Social media is full of posts from netizens claiming the song was poorly constructed and that it marked the “biggest downgrade” for LE SSERAFIM to date.

Though the song also received mixed responses from fans, some of them complaining about its short length, others argued that it was a performance-heavy track, and its real potential will be revealed when the group plays it at their concerts.
