Trot Singer Lee Chan Won Gets Attacked By Audience For Not Singing In Mourning of Itaewon Incident

The audience also booed him.

On October 29, an estimated 100,000 people gathered in Itaewon to celebrate Halloween. During the celebrations, people ended up trapped in the middle of a crowd surge in a narrow alley. Many people began to suffocate and suffer from cardiac arrest, with the death toll currently at 154, with another 149 injured.

A day after the horrific accident, on October 30, 2022, a picnic festival at Jeonnam continued to be held. Trot singer, Lee Chan Won, was scheduled to perform at the 1st Theme Park Autumn Picnic Festival. As the country is currently in mourning, Lee Chan Won decided that he would attend the festival but not perform.

His management communicated the decision to the organizers, and Lee Chan Won also alerted his fans about the matter through his official fancafe. He also requested for those at the festival to refrain from cheering or clapping for him.

Lee Chan Won further apologized to the audience after getting on the stage at the festival. The audience remained upset with his lack of performance and reportedly booed him. One man from the audience even ran toward Lee Chan Won as he descended the stage and verbally assaulted him. The man also grabbed Lee Chan Won’s manager by the collar and instigated a bodily fight with him.

It is unknown if Lee Chan Won will be pressing charges.
