3 Korean Celebrities Who Faced Backlash For Trying To “Revive” Their Careers

Netizens were not happy.

Netizens react quite coldly to Korean celebrities who have been involved in a scandal. There have even been moments where netizens criticized Korean celebrities who tried “reviving” their careers after getting involved in a scandal. Here are 3 Korean celebrities who have dealt with this.

1. Ryu Hwayoung (Former member of T-ara)

Ryu Hwayoung recently made an appearance on King of Masked Singer after being inactive for a few years.

I’ve been inactive and haven’t promoted for a long time. I was scared that people would forget me.

However, netizens and T-ara fans criticized Ryu Hwayoung for her appearance on the show.

  • “She doesn’t deserve to be on stage. This is so disrespectful with T-ARA.”
  • “You can clearly see from her gestures that this girl is an attention seeker.”
  • “He would have put on a viper mask.”
  • “I can’t believe the show still invited her and I can’t believe that she didn’t feel ashamed to be there. She’s such a bad bad bad idol ever. Btw I will report this video.”
  • “Just came here to dislike this video…there are lots of idols whose careers were ruined then turned out to be innocent, some are even way lesser evil than this but hey chose to hide and reflect to what they have done…I’ve never seen any idol as shameless as this evil right here…still have the guts to sing up on stage…disgusting.”

Not only that, but her video also received a lot of dislikes.

In the past, Ryu Hwayoung was involved in a bullying scandal, where it was believed that the T-ara members bullied her. While the other members tried to explain things, netizens were too busy criticizing them, and the group’s image never recovered. However, it was later revealed that the bullying rumors were all false, and some even claimed that Ryu Hwayoung was the actual bully in the group.

2. Go Young Wook (Former member of Roo’Ra)

In 2013, Go Young Wook was found guilty of sexually harassing and touching 3 minors and was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison. He eventually got released in 2015 and has been relatively quiet until recently. Go Young Wook recently made an Instagram account and made his first social media post since his release from prison.

Hello everyone, it’s Go Young Wook. It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to greet you all…it’s been a hard time for everyone due to the Coronavirus…it’s been 9 years since that I’ve been disconnected with the world and I realized that as long as I’m alive, I can’t continue to live like that…which is why I carefully decided that I would like to reconnect with the world. I know that I still lack a lot as a person…but I will work hard to reflect so that I can be a better person! Please be healthy everyone!

Netizens were not happy about this, and many began reporting his account. It didn’t take long for Go Young Wook’s account to get disabled, as Instagram has a policy about convicted sex offenders.

Convicted sex offenders aren’t allowed to use Instagram. If you’ve seen an account that may belong to a convicted sex offender, please report it to us. Once we’re able to verify someone’s status as a sex offender, we’ll immediately disable their account.

However, Go Young Wook then made a post on his Twitter account addressing this situation.

Looks like my Instagram got deleted. I didn’t mean to block comments. I wanted to allow only my followers to be able to leave comments. And I was going to start following accounts. But I received a lot of DMs. The account got disabled shortly after. I couldn’t log in after that. Thank you for your interest while it lasted though!

3. Park Yoochun (Former member of JYJ)

Park Yoochun was involved in a series of scandals in 2019, which involved illegal drug use and lying to the press. Park Yoochun soon admitted to most of his drug charges and announced that he would be retiring from the entertainment industry.

However, in 2020, Park Yoochun canceled his retirement plans and stated that he would be returning to the entertainment industry. He announced that he would be holding an online fan meeting and the sale of a photobook.

Netizens criticized Park Yoochun for returning, as they believed that he should have stayed retired after being found guilty of his crimes.

“He clearly doesn’t have a normal sense of guilt and reflection”

“Even $7.50 would be too much for it… but will it actually even sell?”

“The f*cking idiots who actually buy it are the real problem.”

“Wow ㅋㅋㅋ Are people actually going to buy it?”
