One of the hottest K-Dramas of 2022 has to be Alchemy of Souls. With its unique storyline and star-studded cast, the first series of the show gained attention worldwide and soon became a fan favorite.
In particular, the chemistry between lead actor Lee Jae Wook and lead actress Jung So Min captured the hearts of netizens. Even with the heartbreaking ending to the first series, many called it one of the best K-Dramas of the year.
While Lee Jae Wook’s character always had a dark past, his image in the first series was seemingly quite heroic and bright, trying to counter the darkness within Naksu. Yet, the production team have seemingly kept that in mind when creating the teasers for the next series.
From the second the trailer started, the tone was much darker, with Lee Jae Wook’s character seemingly battling those around him and the elements, with the phrase, “I should’ve died back then.”
With memories of the past flooding back, Lee Jae Wook takes on a much darker persona and is someone who has been changed by their experiences. There is even a far-off shot of someone who seems to resemble Naksu.
The final shots portray the character as a killer, as the star says, “No one can come out of here alive.” There is an old cliche in movies that when someone is reborn or brought back to life, their personality changes and this could easily be what the show is trying to portray.
When the trailer was released, netizens couldn’t believe the transformation of the character. For many, there was a huge contrast between Lee Jae Wook in the first series and what they saw in the trailer, and it perfectly reflected the heartbreaking ending the series saw.

If it wasn’t enough, on November 10, the poster was revealed and seemingly continued the heartbreaking narrative that the season ended on.
While the first poster had a zoomed-in shot of Jung So Min with her eye blue, which represents the presence of a soul shifter…
The second has two interconnecting hands with the Yin and Yan jade that connected the two main characters in the first series. According to insiders, the two hands are Lee Jae Wook and Go Yoon Jung, who is taking over the role of Naksu.
Even though fans will have to get used to a new female lead, the anticipation is definitely hot as netizens can’t wait for the next series to air at the end of the year.
