BTS Finally Weigh In On The “Perilla Leaf” Debate – And They Have Very Strong Opinions

It was a fierce debate.

BTS recently started a new short series on their official YouTube channel called “MBTI Lab,” where the members took the opportunity to update fans about their most recent MBTI results.

In addition to simply sharing their results, the members reacted to MBTI memes and spent time debating different topics, revealing more of their personalities.

Answering questions like how they would feel if a friend unexpectedly invited someone to dinner.

Or how they would respond to a friend’s concern that their job was too much for them.

And, at the end of the second episode, BTS finally officially weighed in on the infamous “Perilla Leaf” debate. The debate is essentially about whether or not it is appropriate for your significant other to help someone else (or vice versa) by separating their perilla leaves, which often get stuck together.

Jungkook and V are the only members who have addressed the debate before.

In one of Jungkook’s Instagram Q&As, a fan asked him for his opinion.

Would you rather ARMY help other idols peel off a sesame leaf or would you rather other idols help ARMY peel it off?

-A fan

Back then, Jungkook cleverly chose to avoid the question.

Let’s just not eat seasame leaves.

-Jungkook

Conversely, V was straightforward about his opinion when asked on Weverse by a fan.

Taehyung, do you know about the sesame leaf debate? What does Taehyung think?

[edit after receiving a reply] gasp…! No…I really…got a response. A reply from Taehyun!! I’ll go buy a lottery ticket and be back. And amidst all this, the “never ever” makes me fluttery, LOL.

-A fan

To which V decisively replied…

LOL, never ever.

-V

And fans also believed that they could ascertain Jin‘s answer through an old episode of Run BTS where Jin used his chopsticks and lips to separate his own perilla leaves.

But now fans have an official answer from each member on how they feel about this debate.

RM, who introduces the topic, quickly shares that he doesn’t think it matters if his significant other would help someone or needs someone else’s help.

I don’t think I’d care.

-RM

Which Suga quickly agrees with.

Me neither.

-Suga

And J-Hope takes a little longer to think about it but also quickly agrees.

I don’t care either.

But V was quick to stop the debate, saying they should take turns answering, starting with Jungkook.

Unlike his answer for the Instagram Q&A, Jungkook had strong feelings that he wouldn’t be comfortable with his significant other separating someone else’s perilla leaves.

They can’t help.

-Jungkook

| BANGTANTV/YouTube

While Suga simply repeats that it doesn’t matter to him.

I don’t care.

-Suga

Jimin had almost a compromise of an answer, creating a scenario and using RM as his example.

Say you’re my significant other. You helped my friend with a perilla leaf then peel mine off too. Wouldn’t that make it okay?

-Jimin

| BANGTANTV/YouTube

But RM clarifies that he is specifically asking if their significant other needed help, not the other way around.

That’s not it. It’s not my significant other who helped my friend. My significant other needed help peeling off a perilla leaf and my friend swoops in.

-RM

| BANGTANTV/YouTube

But Suga interjects to clarify that the debate is actually the other way around.

No no! It’s my friend who needs help and my significant other helps them.

-Suga

| BANGTANTV/YouTube

To which Jin jokes that it’s basically the same situation.

That’s the same thing.

-Jin

But, with his new understanding of the debate, RM reveals that if anything it matters less to him.

Well then, I care even less.

-RM

| BANGTANTV/YouTube

And Jimin adds that it’s odd to notice that behavior when you’re busy eating anyway.

Why would you even notice that when you’re eating? I really focus on eating.

-Jimin

| BANGTANTV/YouTube

And from there, the members amend that if their friend and significant other were flirting, that would be a different story, but most of them don’t see any harm in helping.

If someone’s struggling with it they could help them out.

-Jin

| BANGTANTV/YouTube

But V, who had so decisively answered the question on Weverse, interjects to share why he feels it is more flirtatious.

Look, they’ve been using these chopsticks to eat and they keep using the same chopsticks that’s been in their mouth to help the friend.

-V

| BANGTANTV/YouTube

And when RM asks V to clarify that he’d be annoyed by the situation, V confirms that he would be upset.

I think I’d have a light fight with them.

-V

| BANGTANTV/YouTube

And Jungkook explains that he’d be okay with helping with any food that isn’t a perilla leaf, dramatically creating a scenario with V’s support.

They peel off one perilla leaf, next thing you know, they’re holding hands and fall in love! And they end up getting married!

-Jungkook

| BANGTANTV/YouTube

But J-Hope is the last to share his thoughts, and he simply suggests that trust is all that matters.

It wouldn’t matter if we trust each other.
