Jessi Spills On The Boundary-Pushing Outfit She Wouldn’t Wear Again

She hilariously admitted it revealed more than she intended.

Veteran soloist Jessi was the most recent guest on rapper and actor Dumbfoundead‘s podcast, Fun With Dumb, and she kept listeners highly entertained during the hour-long episode with her relatably honest and open personality.

During the episode, Jessi got real about her career moves, love life, her feelings about her former boss PSY, and breaking boundaries.

Jessi was born in New York and raised in New Jersey before moving to Korea as a teenager. She has been a prominent figure in Korea’s music and entertainment scene for nearly two decades, often challenging industry norms by staying true to herself regardless of what’s considered “normal” for artists in the industry.

When Dumbfounded asked if there was ever a time Jessi wore an outfit on Korean television or media that “pushed a boundary,” one epic outfit came to mind.

Jessi is a WATERBOMB Festival veteran, having performed at the famous festival almost every year since it began in 2015.

Each year, Jessi returns with a sexy outfit, but she hilariously admitted that one year, her outfit was sexier than she intended.

Actually- we were just talking about this- so, I think it was WATERBOMB that blew up.

She shared that her outfit at the 2018 WATERBOMB Festival outfit went viral and initially received a lot of hate.

It went viral because I don’t usually have a stylist when it comes to festivals. But this one time I wore this mesh dress, right?

Jessi revealed that her outfit changed the WATERBOMB Festival standard after she decided to just wear a bikini.

This is what changed the whole standard. I was like, everyone at WATERBOMB was still dressing [normal], right? But I was like, ‘It’s a f*cking WATERBOMB! I’ve been doing this for so long, might as well just wear a f*cking bikini.’ So I was the first one that wore a bikini.

She hilariously noted that Jay Park, another longtime WATERBOMB Festival performer, wasn’t even taking his shirt off at the festival at the time.

I don’t even think Jay Park took his shirt off. That was the first time that I actually was, like, naked. I was like, ‘F*ck this sh*t, I’m going to wear a bra.’ Because I’m going to get wet anyway, right? And it’s a WATERBOMB!

She received a lot of hate for the outfit at first, until she began seeing supportive comments that considered the outfit to be “breaking standards.

I remember this was all over headlines and then people actually liked it after. I was getting a lot of hate and then they were like, ‘Wow, she’s breaking standards,’ You know?

— Jessi

Dumbfoundead acknowledged that the outfit would be considered “pretty edgy for Korea,” and Jessi explained that because of the water weighing down her mesh dress, it exposed more than she had intended.

Okay, I did not know that I was- I knew I was wearing a thong and a bra, but… it’s a mesh dress. This is like when you go to the pool, but I didn’t realize all this water was going to hit me and the mesh was like falling, and all the holes were falling apart. That’s why you can see my a*s.

— Jessi

Jessi honestly shared that she didn’t really care at the time but admitted that it wouldn’t be an outfit she would wear again.

To be honest, I don’t care. Back in the days… I didn’t give a f*ck, right?… I really didn’t give a f*ck at that time. I was like, ‘I’m f*cking done with this sh*t,‘ right? Now I know the boundaries of what’s too much… so I wouldn’t wear something like this again.
