As a former member of IZ*ONE, Chaewon became a leader for the first time in her career when she re-debuted in SOURCE MUSIC girl group LE SSERAFIM.
She shared her thoughts on the leadership role in an exclusive one-on-one interview with Weverse Magazine where she also talked about their comeback with “ANTIFRAGILE,” what it’s like having diverse backgrounds, and why maknae Eunchae used to worry her.
When asked what it’s like being leader of the group, she responded by saying that she used to be shy and awkward when assuming the role. As time passed by, however, she learned the ropes and now knows what to do.
You can see in the documentary how awkward and shy I get when I act as leader for the first time. (laughs) Now I pretty much know exactly what needs to be done.
But did the members already have an argument among themselves, especially because of opposing opinions? According to Chaewon, it has yet to happen! “We haven’t had any differences of opinion or anything so far, so it hasn’t really been that hard,” she said.
However, it isn’t an easy role. The “FEARLESS” singer admitted that being leader has made her face pressure. She always strives to do better than before. It may be uncomfortable at times, but she’s happy to have “a little fire” under her to motivate her to work harder.
Taking on the role gives me a little pressure to do better, but I think things are good the way they are right now because people need a little fire under them so that they work hard.
“I feel like I’m becoming a better person, in a way,” she reflected.
In the same interview, Chaewon revealed the real reasons why the “ANTIFRAGILE” choreography is incredibly challenging. Check out her answer here:
